In today’s busy materialistic world, we are so preoccupied with our own duties (wanted or not!) that we feel like we are spinning so fast, that we have lost our orbits. We don’t take out some time to appreciate and understand the amazing chemistry between the fundamental aspects of nature. Honestly speaking where are we heading?
According to me, spirituality, is the search for meaning in our life as the primary motivational force that keeps us going. It is a search for meaning in life. True Artistic creations reflect spiritual values like beauty, creativity, honesty, generosity, discernment, patience, and perseverance. Spirituality is about connecting to the inner self, finding peace and all of that. We go to a place of worship or an oratory, precisely, in search of this. With authentic ways to express our creativity, in acts like painting and sculpture, we see the world in a different perspective and try to find ways to enter it directly.
It helps us free ourselves from the materialistic world and helps us see the other beauty, a world of happiness and a meaningful aspect of life, which no amount of money can buy us, nor can any institution teach us. Art can inculcate a special sense of bliss in us. It is not a hobby, it is a way of life, touching the deepest parts of primordial human existence, and an insight of our future.
Right from the dawn of civilization, daily life was depicted in the form of cave paintings. The depiction of spirituality has constantly varied from artist to artist and also the different medias. It is quite evident that the deepest impact on art, since pre-modern times is spirituality. It has directly and indirectly helped in preserving culture and tradition. Art has always acted as a language for communication and expression of Spiritual movements.
Art and Spirituality are constantly interwound together, in ways we don’t even bother to think about. The main connection between the two is ‘inspiration’. With spirituality infusing in every moment, it enables the painter to function as a craftsman and a philosopher. Paintings are not just a visual treat, it is a challenge, for us to respect, appreciate, honour and understand the various dimensions of imagination and understanding the divine.

Thank you so much Ravi Anna. I’m glad you enjoyed. I certainly will continue to do it because so far away (physically!) from home,it keeps me going and this is one thing that makes me spend my time and weekends meaningfully when I’m bored about the rest !!!
Very well written Rakshi.. Any act that takes you in the path of finding oneself is medimeditation. your thoughts clearly say that for you painting is like meditating. Please continue to paint and write. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog.
Sorry for the typo it is Chitra aunty.
Very beautifully crafted piece of writing chores aunty. It’s true for any form of art including dance. I loved the phrase - offered but not purchased or sold!
Art forms transcend you to spectacular spiritual dimension, especially music!
I have realised that music and spirituality go together and for you my dear painting. God Himself is the Supreme Musician and each human being is a note in His cosmic Game. As music is universal perhaps through His music, God is offering to His children the message of unity in multiplicity and also the message of multiplicity in unity. Sometimes the soul responds to music. The soul thrills to music; it just melts and becomes one with the devine. When we play soulful music, we elevate our consciousness most rapidly towards divinity almost like meditation. All those who are seekers of the infinite Truth will naturally play soulful music…
